Systemic Health Preservation | Comprehensive & Airway Care Matrix
A structural approach to proactive health.
In a city built on managing long-term risk, your oral health shouldn’t rely on a purely reactive model. We look beyond basic symptomatic fixes to engineer a stable biological foundation.
Preventive care, in four parts.
Which of these you need is not a matter of preference. We measure first, and the numbers decide what your appointments look like and how often you come back.
Comprehensive Examination
Sixty to ninety minutes on its own day, before any treatment is scheduled. Teeth, periodontal measurements, jaw mechanics, airway, and medical history, so that everything after it is based on findings rather than assumptions.
Dental Cleanings
A full hour. Complete removal of plaque and calculus, home care reviewed and chosen for your mouth, and your return interval set from what we actually find rather than from a default of six months. Fees published.
Periodontal Treatment
Bleeding gums are not normal. We chart the whole mouth, stage and grade the disease against a published framework, and treat two quadrants per hour, then re-probe six weeks later to confirm the tissue responded.
Sleep & Airway Care
Oral appliance therapy using dreamTAP hardware for patients with mild to moderate sleep apnea or documented CPAP intolerance, coordinated with your physician and following a sleep study rather than replacing one.
“Conservative cosmetic dentistry isn’t about doing less; it is about having the clinical discipline to preserve more.”
Dr. John Slate, Slate Dental
Comprehensive Diagnostics vs. Reactive Dentistry
Symptom-based care provides transient band-aids to deep-seated issues. True comprehensive dentistry evaluates the root biological causes to safeguard your long-term well-being.
| The Comprehensive Approach | The Reactive Approach |
|---|---|
|
Holistic Systemic Analysis: Every proposed intervention is filtered through a singular metric: “How will this treatment affect the biomechanics and microflora of the entire mouth over the next decade?” Granular Initial Evaluation: New patient protocols integrate structural assessment of the teeth, periodontal matrices, jaw mechanics, genetic history, and lifestyle risk markers. Protected Treatment Geometry: Appointments are explicitly buffered with dedicated, unhurried operational blocks to ensure clinical execution is accurate down to the micron. |
Isolated Symptomatic Tracking: Chasing isolated complaints in order of discomfort while ignoring underlying structural failure, malocclusion, or biological breakdown. High-Volume Conveyor Scheduling: Fragmented exams that run on a high-speed assembly line, frequently resulting in missed subsurface decay and untreated periodontal changes. One-Size-Fits-All Defaults: Utilizing basic standard templates for complex biological problems instead of designing bespoke, multi-stage treatment blueprints. |
The Records Transfer Standard
To honor your time and protect your biological data, we prioritize the seamless transfer of your historical dental imaging and charts. Gathering your previous records ensures a significantly deeper diagnostic evaluation.
A note on diagnostic radiation: If you have undergone recent high-resolution x-rays at another clinical facility, we make every effort to utilize that historical imaging. This practice directly limits redundant exposure to radiation and eliminates unnecessary diagnostic expenses during your initial check-up.
By legally transferring your clinical notes and periodontal history to contact@slatedentaldc.com, you provide Dr. Slate with vital context regarding past structural shifts, bone density trends, and past material tolerances.
How to coordinate your records transfer
A zero-friction administrative protocol completed in minutes:
- 01Execute the release form: Available for download in the document grid below.
- 02Forward to your previous office: The document provides explicit authorization to transfer your digital files.

Before your diagnostic visit.
What occurs during the initial diagnostic examination?
Your first appointment is reserved for evaluation rather than treatment. Dr. Slate dedicates 60 to 90 minutes to structural dental parameters, periodontal charting, and airway dimensions. The comprehensive examination is $162, and we schedule it on its own day so that your cleaning can be built around what we actually find. Cleanings are booked for a following appointment. Full details and published fees are on our dental cleanings page.
How are insurance plans managed at Slate Dental?
We operate as an in-network provider for Cigna DPPO members. For all alternative out-of-network PPO insurance systems, we act on an unrestricted, fee-for-service basis. Our clinical coordinator prepares and files all medical and dental documentation on your behalf, allowing you to maximize out-of-network reimbursements directly.
What is the policy regarding schedule modifications?
To maintain an unhurried concierge framework and guarantee that every patient receives singular, uninterrupted attention, we enforce a strict 48-hour schedule modification policy. Late changes or missed procedural appointments without notice disrupt this careful operational balance and are subject to an administrative fee.
