Is Slate Dental accepting new patients?
Yes. Slate Dental is currently accepting new adult patients. You can book online or call (202) 686-5222. New patient forms and records transfer instructions are on our New Patient Information page.
What happens at a first visit at Slate Dental?
Your first visit is a comprehensive examination lasting 60 to 90 minutes with Dr. Slate. He reviews your dental and medical history, takes any needed diagnostics, and evaluates your teeth, gums and bite. How much does a first visit at Slate Dental cost?
The comprehensive examination, ADA code D0150, is $162. A full mouth series of x-rays, D0210, is $219, and is only needed when you do not have recent images we can use — a full mouth series taken elsewhere within the past five years avoids that fee entirely, and recent bitewings save $140. Diagnostic impressions and study models, D0470, are $260 when a case requires them. Does Slate Dental treat children?
No. Slate Dental is an adult general dental practice and does not treat children. We are glad to refer families to a pediatric dentist in Northwest Washington, DC.
Does Slate Dental offer early morning dental appointments?
Yes. We open at 7:30 AM Monday through Friday, so patients can be seen before the workday starts. Office hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, and Friday, 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
What does a concierge dental practice mean for me?

Does Slate Dental accept insurance?
Cigna DPPO is the only network Slate Dental participates in. We do not participate in the Cigna Advantage network. For every other plan we are an out-of-network, fee-for-service practice, and our insurance coordinator submits claims on your behalf so your carrier reimburses you directly. Do you take Delta Dental, MetLife, Aetna, Guardian, or United Concordia?
We are out of network with all of these plans. You can still be seen: we file the claim for you, out-of-network PPO benefits commonly reimburse 50% to 80% of fees, and your annual maximum benefit is unchanged. Cigna DPPO is our only in-network plan.
Do you accept HSA, FSA, or offer financing?
Yes. We accept HSA and FSA payments, and we work with TuaPay and Cherry to offer financing on larger treatment plans.

General, restorative and cosmetic dentistry for adults: comprehensive exams and hygiene, tooth-colored fillings, crowns, bridges, porcelain veneers, dentures and partials, full mouth reconstruction, implant restorations, extractions, periodontal disease treatment, TMJ treatment, sleep apnea and airway care, whitening, custom mouthguards, sedation and emergency dentistry.
What does Slate Dental not do?
We are a general dental practice, not a specialty office. We do not treat children, do not provide orthodontics or Invisalign, and do not surgically place implants, perform periodontal surgery, or handle complex oral surgery in house. We refer those procedures to trusted specialists in Washington, DC and restore the result ourselves.
Does Slate Dental place dental implants?
We restore implants rather than place them. Surgical placement is performed by an oral surgeon or periodontist we work with. Dr. Slate plans the case and makes the final implant crown or bridge using digitally designed, manufacturer-direct custom abutments, and can document the authenticity of every implant, abutment and screw.
Do you offer Invisalign or clear aligners?
We do not offer Invisalign or orthodontic clear aligner treatment. We do fabricate clear aligner-style retainers to hold teeth in position after orthodontic treatment or as part of a restorative plan.

A cloud-based clinical records system (Curve Dental) and digital radiography for detailed imaging and record keeping, combined with high-definition analog impressions where they capture margin detail more reliably than an intraoral scan. For implant restorations we use digitally designed custom abutments ordered direct from the implant manufacturer.
What materials do you use for crowns and veneers?
Pressed lithium disilicate ceramic — specifically GC Initial LiSi Press — for crowns, onlays and veneers. It is a high-strength pressable all-ceramic with a documented clinical track record. We do not use aftermarket or generic implant components, and we can document the source of every implant, abutment and screw.
