Where We Are in Northwest DC
We are at 3301 New Mexico Avenue NW, Suite 332, in the Foxhall Square building. If you know the area, you know the building: Wagshal’s is next door and Chef Geoff’s is on the corner. We are directly across from Mann Elementary School, one block south of American University, and a few minutes from the National Cathedral. Wesley Heights is across the street.
Our entrance is on the third floor. There is a concierge desk and a building directory inside the main lobby, and an elevator to our floor. Get directions.
Parking Is the Easy Part
Parking in this part of DC is usually the thing people worry about. At Foxhall Square it is genuinely straightforward, and you have three options.
3301 New Mexico Avenue NW, across from Mann Elementary and one block south of American University. The main entrances are on the east and south sides.
The garage entrance is on the south side of the building. Look for the 3301 Foxhall Square Parking sign and turn into the driveway.
A private covered garage for the building, operated by Colonial Parking, with valet available. Free two to three hour street parking is also available on New Mexico Avenue and in Wesley Heights across the street.
A covered roundabout serves as a drop-off, which helps in bad weather, for rideshare arrivals, and for wheelchair access. Elevator to the third floor, Suite 332.
Hours
Friday: 7:30 AM – 12:30 PM
Closed Saturday and Sunday
The 7:30 AM start exists for a reason. A good share of our patients work in the area and come in before the day starts.
Neighborhoods We Serve
Most of our patients come from Foxhall, Wesley Heights, Spring Valley, American University Park, Cathedral Heights, The Palisades, and Georgetown. We also see patients from Bethesda, Chevy Chase, and McLean, and a number of people who live elsewhere but work near the office and find it easier to see a dentist on their side of the commute.
What a First Visit Actually Involves
We reserve 60 to 90 minutes for a new patient exam. That is not a sales meeting and it is not a rushed look with a cleaning bolted onto the end. It is the time it takes to do this properly.
- We take a full history, including what has been done before and what you did not like about it.
- We take digital images and a full set of records, and examine the teeth, gums, bite, and jaw joints together rather than one tooth at a time.
- We talk through what we found, in plain language, and what your options are, including doing nothing for now where that is reasonable.
- You get any fees in writing before treatment is scheduled.
If a cleaning is appropriate at that visit, we will say so. If your gums need something different from a routine cleaning, we will explain why rather than doing the routine one anyway. More on that on our new patient page.
Fees and Insurance
Slate Dental is a fee-for-service practice. Most of our patients do not use dental insurance, and that is not a problem here. It is a normal way to be seen by us. Every fee is quoted in writing before treatment begins, and there are no surprises added afterward.
We are in-network with Cigna DPPO and PPO plans. If you carry another plan, we are happy to provide the documentation you need to submit for your own reimbursement. Details are on our payment and insurance page.
Adults and Teens
We treat adults and teenagers. We do not offer pediatric dentistry, braces, or clear aligners. If you are looking for a dentist for a young child, or for orthodontics, we would rather tell you that now than have you drive here to find out, and we are glad to point you toward someone good.
