Dr. John Slate is the heart and soul of Slate Dental. A graduate of Nova Southeastern University, he pairs a gentle touch with meticulous attention to detail. His expertise ranges from routine preventative care to beautiful, long-lasting cosmetic cases and complex full-mouth rehabilitations.
His passion for dentistry is matched by a love for adventure—whether he’s practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, working on his beloved 1990 VW Westfalia camper van, or spending time with his wife, Meagan, and their two young daughters.

We refuse to compromise on care. While many practices move toward a high-volume model, Slate Dental operates as a fee-for-service, concierge practice. We reserve 60 to 90 minutes for every diagnostic appointment, ensuring we have the time to listen to your concerns, thoroughly diagnose any issues, and engineer long-term oral health.
You will never be double-booked or left waiting in a lobby. From the moment you step into our Foxhall Square office, you receive Dr. Slate’s undivided attention.

Every reconstructive plan is meticulously engineered. We record all past treatments, assess bone and gum health, and take advanced diagnostic impressions. Dr. Slate designs every customized treatment plan with the specific goal of it lasting two decades or more. For our most complex reconstruction cases, patients are even provided with Dr. Slate’s personal cell phone number for direct access throughout their journey.

We believe in absolute transparency. We use advanced digital imaging to create a complete picture of your oral health. For cosmetic and reconstructive work, we provide digital smile design consultations—a blueprint of your potential new smile—and allow you to “test drive” custom temporaries to ensure they follow your natural lip line perfectly before anything is finalized.
This transparency extends to our financing. Dental care is an investment in your long-term health, and we provide clear, upfront costs with no surprises. We offer interest-free financing for up to 6 months to ensure our excellence-based dentistry remains accessible. We are also proud to be an in-network provider for Cigna DPPO and PPO plans.
